For the most part.

My blog plan has always been to stay as positive as possible. I share positive things I find, products I enjoy, inspirations I think you would like. When and if I talk about myself I like to keep it upbeat...for the most part.

I have to tell you, readers, I've been in a spell of blog-post-dry-out. Makes me feel a bit disappointed when I don't have the head of steam I used to. A bunch of the features I used to share have gone the way of the Dodo--Art History, artist interviews, "and I quote", Flickr Faves, small business topics--to name a few.



Yeah, I get it, things evolve and people change. I know this happens to others as I was just reading a post about the same thing over on Leah's blog, moxie photo design (haven't visited...please, do, you'd enjoy her musings).

So, here's the thing. Instead of adding up the times I haven't posted, I'm just posting when I really have something to share or to say. Keeping it real. I always respect the bloggers that are honest and sincere more so than fancy and frequent. Not that it's ever been unreal on this blog--and it never will be, I promise--but in blogging, as in 'real life', honesty really is the best policy, don't you agree?



Being honest, I've been struggling with this spring term at University. Not the work or the schedule but my health has been bringing me down a bit too often. Nothing graphic to share, just that I have back issues that have caused me sciatica distress for about 18 months, and symptoms of hypo-thryroid that wreak havoc with my hormones and cause major fatigue. I've structured myself on a one-day-at-a-time lifestyle, and, at times, even that can be more than enough.



But I'm still pluggin' along, still working at what I need to do, and always find something to be hopeful for and inspired by--even if I'm neglectful to share it with those around me. So that's my personal sharing for today, folks.

Thanks for hanging around here even when it's a bit slow, and thanks to those that take time to leave me comments and feedback; I appreciate it very, very much!

Strzynski originally hails from Flint Michigan - that's where they used to make Buicks. Grew up mostly in Traverse City by Lake Michigan - that's where they grow cherries. He now resides in Ann Arbor and works as a full time artist. Dylan's work includes original mixed-media collage, mono types and etchings.

Neat Things: Zoo Tycoon II

So, Chris came home last weekend with a surprise for me. I found the box on my desk Friday night. It's fun, it's a bit addictive, and it's called Zoo Tycoon 2. A video game? Yes, a video game...and I'm officially hooked, my friends. H-O-O-K-E-D.

My hubby's a tail-end baby boomer and I'm an early Gen-X'er. The advent of MTV (with actual music videos!), personal computers, a little company called Apple, and the new "fad" of video games...they all came to be in our era. Of course, back then, we didn't switch on the TV, juice up the console or log on to the Internet. We went to the arcade. Those big, black rooms pulsing with neon, music, pinging, blooping, blipping and scores of bug-eyed kids pumping the change machines for quarters, quarters, quarters. Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, Space Invaders, Frogger, Burger Time, Pole Position, Paper Boy, Dig Dug and the list goes on including, my all-time fave, Ms. Pacman! We'd save up the pop cans (Oregon has the bottle bill), flip the couch cushions and check my dads pockets in the laundry hamper--all in pursuit of that "High Score".

Fast forward 25 years (give-or-take), and I'm playing Zoo Tycoon 2 on my Macbook. Building my zoo, creating exhibits, adopting animals, entertaining my guests. Care for the animals, win awards, manage finances, check my stats, go on a photo safari...it's all 3D, very interactive. It's not just kid stuff; I'm learning a lot...really!

My hubby, the gamer, strikes again. Thanks, Chris!

Once upon a time...we were picked for another treasury. THANK YOU to Rachel Culp of MyDeepBlueC for including our Humpty Dumpty photo in her super-fun collection on Etsy.

Rachel is the daughter of actor, Robert Culp. For 23 years she's been creating funky, one-of-a-kind, custom boutique clothing, wardrobe, pillows and yoga bags for rock stars, their kids and anyone else that enjoys her work. Some of Rachel's clients include musician Todd Rundgren, (Hello It's Me), The Tubes, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Starship, Blue Oyster Cult, Mr. Big, Elvis Costello Band, actresses Liv Tyler, Tatum O'Neal and others.

Rachel's inspiration comes from the rock bands of the 1960s-1970s, antique quilts that tell a story, and circus clowns. Creating each piece of clothing to fit a personality is her favorite challenge. Makes me wish I had offspring just so I could buy both of these clever jean jackets!

While checking our Flickr stream last evening, I found a pleasant little surprise. My photo, Track, has been tagged as their Photo of the Week to be posted on coastradio.org on 10.18.08! Coast Radio's website displays the air schedule for radio stations at the North Oregon Coast, including Astoria, Warrenton and Tillamook (roughly a hour drive from where we live in Portland). Big thanks to them for choosing my image as their favorite for the week. Yay for Flickr!

Abracadabra!

Here's a blast from the past for all you 80's kids. This Abracadabra Treasury on Etsy was inspired by the song of the same name, by The Steve Miller Band from...wait for it...1982! I was in eigth grade in 1982 and remember that this song was very popular. I try not to remember standing alone by the wall at the school dances in those years...but at least we had fun, creative music all through that era. We had to have a redeeming quality since the clothes, hair and pop vocabulary choices were so tacky!
