Back in action!

Hello, Readers--I'm finally back! Yes, the weather was great! Yes, Disneyland was fantastic! No, we did not want to come home yet! It was good to get away but actually it's nice to be home again, too.

What do you think of my new winter banner up there? Not a big project but I'm happy with it!

For anyone that hasn't visited yet...I updated my art blog, and it's no longer about my art class but just about art, photography, design (in the art sense not the interior/exterior kind often shared here), and all people, things and artiness that inspires me. Remember this project? I've posted the final pics today on apt 3 design--come by for a peek, read further, follow and enjoy!

I've also been really busy beefing up my Etsy vintage shop the last few weeks, and I have been rewarded. I came home from vacation with 12 new sales waiting for shipment--thank you to all my wonderful vintage customers! Due to recent challenging developments with Chris' career, now, more than ever, it is important to make this supplemental income a rousing success. Love vintage? Have friends or family that do as well? Please stop by my shop, browse awhile, mark it in your faves and do come back--all items being one-of-a-kind things sell and I update often.

Looking for those last minute gifts but still want something unique? Consider gift certificates from forrestina vintage! You choose the amount, I e-mail to you or your giftees--guaranteed in time for Christmas. Find details and listings in the holiday section of my shop.

Okay, that's the shameless plug for today, folks. Now returning you to your regular station.

Neat Things: Globes

Globes definitely qualify as a neat thing! I just listed a vintage beauty in my Etsy shop last night {see photo above, click it to visit the shop}. In researching the age of my globe, I learned a bunch of interesting info on the company it was manufactured by, and thought to myself, "Self, this info would make a rather nifty blog post." I hope you think so, too.

When Luther Replogle quit his job during the Great Depression to make and sell globes, critics thought he’d mapped out a surefire route to failure. But Replogle had more than a novel idea; he had faith in his product.

“Luther came up with the credo that there should be a globe in every home,” says Dan Dillon, 53, co-president of Replogle Globes, the world’s largest globe manufacturer, in Broadview, Ill. (pop. 8,264).

In the late 1920s, Replogle was a salesman for a Chicago company that sold supplies, including globes, to schools. Replogle was convinced that information-hungry Americans would eagerly buy globes for their homes so they could pinpoint places that were in the news.

During the nation’s bleakest economic time, he quit his job, borrowed $500 from friends and family, and founded Replogle Globes in 1930. His wife, Elizabeth, and one employee made the cardboard and plaster globes in their basement and Replogle sold them from his Model T Ford. For three years, sales barely kept food on the table, but Replogle never lost faith in the power of globes to educate and inspire. In 1933, he got his break when he designed an 8-inch souvenir globe for the World’s Fair in Chicago. During the fair, Replogle sold more than 100,000 globes for $1.75 each—and put Replogle Globes on the map.

About the same time, President Franklin D. Roosevelt started his “fireside chats,” a series of radio talks in which he often began his remarks about foreign affairs by telling listeners, “Now, get out your globe.”

Today, 150 Replogle employees manufacture more than 100 models of globes, from 4.3-inch diameter orbs that sell for $9.99 to 32-inch handcrafted, illuminated masterpieces that retail for $8,500. The company sells more than a million globes printed in 20 languages each year, and people still get out their globes to track world events.

You can read more about the Replogle company here and here.

All globe items featured in this post were discovered on Etsy--click the photos for more info and to shop!

New pastures, new passions

Dear Friends, (those we know and those who are have just discovered us)

SHOP CLOSING
After much consideration Chris and I have decided to close our photography shop--
Pfeiffer Photos--on Etsy at the end of August. The sales haven't been coming for some time, and our promotion level has dropped due to pursuits of other projects so it's on to other pastures and passions for now. We're still taking photos--no loss of interest there--and we'll keep sharing them on Flickr so check our our gallery over there and become a contact so we can enjoy your photos, too!

Pfeiffer Photos has been a good adventure for us and we value all the nice people we've met through Etsy and beyond. Our photography has improved much, we've learned a lot about running a small business, and most all of we've made some great friends--on
Etsy, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and especially through the Pfeiffer Photos blog.

We're still answering Etsy convos (until end of Aug), and email inquiries (click the icon in the right margin of this blog) so don't hesitate to drop us a note.

CLOSING SHOP SALE: Receive 50% off on select 4x6 prints and cards...visit our sale section in the Etsy Shop for all the details.

Our photo note cards are now available only upon request. Please send us a message with the title of the image and quantity you desire and we'll create a custom listing for you on Etsy through the end of August 09. After that, please view our images and send requests through our Flickr Gallery or via email link on this blog.

FLICKR
Our Flickr Gallery will stay alive after the shop closes as it holds MANY MORE images and almost all of them can be made into prints or cards upon request.

BLOG
The Pfeiffer Photos blog has morphed so much since originally started and has become about so much more than just photography! The blog adventure will continue after our shop is closed. I'm still here...the posts have been fewer just because I'm on a bit of a hiatus to enjoy some summer activities before I start school again in the fall.

MY VINTAGE ADVENTURE
And, last, but not least, please visit my Etsy vintage shop--forrestina vintage--the place where I'm spending more of my energy these days. You can also connect with forrestina vintage on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and via the vintage blog which has turned out to be lots of fun for me to create (and has a nice little following at 87 and counting!)

On a more personal note...

We're heading off for the beach this weekend for some fishing, thrifting and clam chowder with friends. And, yes, we'll be taking our cameras so check the Flickr gallery for new photos soon!

Have a super weekend, my friends!

Etsy: New in shop at forrestina vintage

My Etsy vintage shop--forrestina vintage--was recently included in the lovely treasury up top (my item is the demitasse trio set). We're bubbling right along, and I am listing new items daily. If you're into vintage clothing and accessories, housewares, home decor, art or just random vintage goodness please come by and see what's new in shop!

I'm also blogging about vintage HERE, sharing retro fun on Facebook (be my fan!), and tweeting vintage and more right over HERE.
