Magic Moments

One of the best things about a vacation is the photographs we bring home. Whenever we feel the need they are at ready to transport us back to those happy moments in time. Our trip to Disneyland last month was short but sweet and I'm slowly editing the many moments we captured while we were there...here's a few for you to enjoy over the weekend!

Images 1-4 and 7 are by my husband, Chris, and 5 and 6 were from my camera lens.

Travel: Hug Point, Oregon Coast USA

Our mini-vaca was very relaxing and the weather was divine. We stopped for a few hours to walk the beach at Hug Point this morning. Hug Point is a state wayside just south of Cannon Beach, along the Oregon Coast. The mist and sunshine were magic in the shore pines, and we caught a few shots of a happy couple having their photos taken prior to their ceremony-by-the-sea.

Quiet

In June of 2007, we went on a road trip to Wallowa County. This lovely place is located on the far east side of our wonderous state of Oregon. We spent our time in a number of small towns, including three nights in a cozy bed-and-breakfast in the tiny town of Joseph.

The entire county of Wallowa has only 7,000 residents, and not one stop light. Most folks are self-employed, many are ranchers, foresters or work in the lumber industry. Everyone we met was laid back and friendly. Overlooking the town are the magnificent Wallowa Mountains. Joseph is the kind of place that only has two “dining” establishments that stay open past eight o’clock in the evening–our favorite by far was Calderas Gallery & Grill.

The thing that impressed us first and throughout our visit was the quiet. It’s a kind of quiet that we cannot experience in the city. So quiet in places that you can hear the quiet. The skies are open and blue during the days and endless and chock full of stars in the nights.

Back in the city, back in our apartment, back in school, back to work, and back to our ‘real’ life we often find ourselves musing about returning to the quiet. A place without traffic reports, crime statistics, hectic schedules, deadlines and due dates, dozens of criss-crossing power lines over our heads and acres of concrete and buildings and…

We do miss the quiet.

New pastures, new passions

Dear Friends, (those we know and those who are have just discovered us)

SHOP CLOSING
After much consideration Chris and I have decided to close our photography shop--Pfeiffer Photos--on Etsy at the end of August. The sales haven't been coming for some time, and our promotion level has dropped due to pursuits of other projects so it's on to other pastures and passions for now. We're still taking photos--no loss of interest there--and we'll keep sharing them on Flickr so check our our gallery over there and become a contact so we can enjoy your photos, too!

Pfeiffer Photos has been a good adventure for us and we value all the nice people we've met through Etsy and beyond. Our photography has improved much, we've learned a lot about running a small business, and most all of we've made some great friends--on Etsy, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and especially through the Pfeiffer Photos blog.

We're still answering Etsy convos (until end of Aug), and email inquiries (click the icon in the right margin of this blog) so don't hesitate to drop us a note.

Our photo note cards are now available only upon request. Our Flickr Gallery will stay alive after the shop closes as it holds MANY MORE images and almost all of them can be made into prints or cards upon request.

BLOG
The Pfeiffer Photos blog has morphed so much since originally started and has become about so much more than just photography! The blog adventure will continue after our shop is closed. I'm still here...the posts have been fewer just because I'm on a bit of a hiatus to enjoy some summer activities before I start school again in the fall.

Etsy Treasury: Light Bright Delight

My Backyard: Munson Creek Falls

After a week of final exams we escaped. We drove out of Dodge (aka Portland, OR) yesterday around noon and didn't return until almost 9:00 P.M. You see, there was a waterfall to find. In this land of the green, the hiking, and the waterfalls in the wilderness, we had yet to experience Munson Creek Falls in Tillamook County. It's about 2 hours drive from Portland to Tillamook (til-a-muck) if you're not in a hurry, and we weren't. We travel Highway 6 through the Tillamook National Forest (see photo above) and it's all green and so glorious.

The road to Munson Creek is 7 miles south off Hwy 6, then a turn at a poorly marked farm road, up another 1 1/2 miles until the pavement turns to gravel. From there it's another 3/4 mile into the park and 1/4 mile hike to the site of the waterfall.

It is well worth every mile and I believe that the photographs speak volumes.

After recharging in the woods we drove on down the coastline to Rockaway, OR, and walked a very quiet beach for another 2 miles. The sound and smell of the ocean was much needed therapy after weeks of being cooped up in town working and studying and tending to daily life.

The drive home is always bittersweet. We want to stay longer. We know we have to go back to reality. But, honestly, I ask you...what could be more reality than the slowed down pace, and the serenity of open sky, salt air and only the wind and the birds in your ears?
