Preparing for Christmas

Yes, I know...it's early. I don't celebrate Halloween, folks, so this evening I was browsing Etsy while listening to a holiday play list. This handful of vintage and handmade beauties are a few I discovered. These really spark memories of tradition for me...click the images to visit the shops.

More to come...oh, and in case you weren't counting, you've got 57 shopping days left.

The Green Bus

Bus Roots is a green roof system designed for buses by Marco Castro Cosio. Bus Roots started as a way to "reclaim forgotten space, increase quality of life and grow the amount of green spaces" in New York City.

Currently, Cosio's prototype is installed on the roof of the BioBus for last five months and has been going around NYC and even as far as Ohio, and is mostly growing small succulents.

Fashion: Simple + Versatile

Back-to-school often means shopping for new clothes. I've been collecting over the summer at thrift shops and yard sales but like these simple, handmade pieces - all found on Etsy - also. Simple and versatile is key for me. Any of these would easily mix into my wardrobe now and for years to come.

Wildwood

We visited Wildwood {Recreation Site and Cascade Stream Watch} for the first time this year...it certainly won't be the last. One of my favorite places in Oregon, on the Salmon River and the flank of Mount Hood and a world away from the concrete jungle.

Visitors have the unique opportunity to explore natural streams and wetlands from boardwalks and interpretive trails. From the Cascade Streamwatch Trail, you can see young salmon and steelhead through a viewing window.

We like to go there just to relax and recharge. There's just no place like Oregon!

Wedding + Waterfall = Weekend

Our weekend was a wedding in North Bend, WA {CONGRATS, Tim and Bree--we love you!}. Enjoying comfort food in a country pub {Beef. Stroganoff. Oh, yeah.} Driving many miles on highways and byways.

Standing in the mist curtain of a monster waterfall in a land of ultimate GREEN. Spying on wild peregrine falcons in a nest.

Exploring a railroad museum {photos coming soon}.

Discovering a new trove of antique malls {Kalama, WA--who knew?}. Moving into our space at the Antique Alley here in PDX. Whew! It's been full and wonderful.

Hiking at Wahkeena Falls

We went for a hike last Sunday, in the Columbia River Gorge. We cruised the Old River Highway, and the images in this post feature Wahkeenah Falls and the viewpoint at the Vista House. These inspiring natural gems are less than an hour from home--we are so blessed!

We're making plans for more hiking for the spring and summer in and around Portland and Oregon. Tell me about your favorite places to get into nature...

Design Inspiration: White & Lime Bedroom

This room could be much too sterile for some but white always conveys simple, soothing and fresh for me. The pop of LIME and the bold, graphic print of the zinnia is the saving grace here and gives it such a contemporary look.

Leave a comment, tell me what YOU think!
