Recipe: Beef Brisket with Horseradish Sauce

You Will Need:
3 lb. beef brisket
2 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
4 whole cloves
1 bay leaf
1 clove garlic
2 stalks celery, chopped

*OR use the spice packet that comes with a pre-packaged roast...

How To:
Place beef in dutch oven with enough water to cover. Add rest of ingredients (or the packet). Cover and simmer 3 hours, or until tender. Remove meat and slice. Serve with your favorite horseradish sauce. Very tasty accompanied by cabbage, boiled red or mashed potatoes and/or carrots.

This recipe comes to us from the vintage pages of my retro cook book, one that I will never throw out...Betty Crocker's New Picture Cook Book circa 1961. These are now selling for up to $225 on eBay. Not mine, folks--I love it for the illustrations alone!
