The Official name is now The Arctic Blast. Oh, the weather outside is frightful and overnight we dropped from mid-40s to low 20s with a forecast of up to eight inches by tonight!
Yes, I realize that for you folks who live in mountainous places or frigid-weather-famous cities like Chicago and NYC, eight inches is just a flurry in the scheme of things. In the Pacific Northwest, at least in the Willamette Valley of Portland and the outlying smaller cities, two inches is cause for real excitement, so you can imagine what that means with a forecast of eight! The news weather folk around here get pretty amped up at even the prospect of heavy wind gusts in our normally mild (read: LOTS of rain) winter season.
The view from our windows on 12.13.08:
...and again on 12.14.08:
Photo #1 shows part of our front stairs (aka: "The Vertigo Stairs"--and that's in good weather!) and front sidewalk.
Photo #2 is the view from my kitchen window facing north.
Photo #3 is the remnants of our container garden on the deck.
What you don't see in these photos is the steadily falling snowflakes and the chilly wind gusts of up to 30 MPH. We're hunkered down for the duration of the storm. Our pantry is stocked, the kettle's on the stove and we've got movies to enjoy.
Stay warm, everyone!

Thanks for the comment over at Susan's Snippets! I appreciate it. But, please, oh, please do not send eastward any bitter cold.
it's getting old
I understand the cold pain!! Right now here in my city in Canada its -47 and its blustery winds whipping into your eyeballs if you have to go out somewhere.
Wow -- that looks and sounds so cold, especially when you're not used to it. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we've had unusually cold weather as well -- in the 40's, which is cold for us. Rained a little today, snow in the Santa Cruz Mountains and of course heading up to the Reno/Tahoe area. House is really chilly, but trying not to use too much heat in an effort to keep the bill down.
Stay warm!
Hi there!
I hope you don't mind, but I'm tagging you to list 7 facts about yourself. I think it's a good way to get to know each other =).
The rules and such are on my blog.
I love how much it snowed at your place. I'm still waiting for snow fall here at Germany! Lovely pictures...happy holidays!
susan: Thanks back! I think the cold is moving south from here...stay warm out there!
papergirl: Ooo, no thank you on that kind of cold...I'll stick with our 13 degrees and be happy for it. :-)
TheresaJ: That is a bit chilly for the Bay Area--I hear you on keeping the gas off to save some $$. Thankful for sweaters and fleece!
Kim: Well, no I don't mind, thanks!
Jacqueline: Hope you get your snow soon; perhaps for Christmas? :0)
